Walk For Megan

Finally on the last day of March (31) we hit  a day of some Spring weather conducive to a hike.  Temperature was about 60 with plenty of sunshine.  About time!!  Peggy and I decided to go on the Cherry Blossom hike near the Capital Crescent Trail.  The trail was originally a B & O Railroad bed, converted to a recreational trail around 1988.  It extends about 11 mi. in the D.C. area from Silver Spring to Georgetown. On the trail were many hikers, bikers, joggers, and we even saw a roller skater.

A fellow hiker with grand-dog Lacey
hike was sponsored by the Seneca Sugarloaf Volksmarch Club. (YRE, year round event)  It took us on the Capital trail and then we cut off into an upper class neighborhood called Kenwood.  It is known for its beautiful homes
and cherry blossomed lined streets.  Unfortunately we missed the full bloom stage.  The blossoms were just starting to peek out, but not really fully opened.  We saw a few trees out, though.  It was a nice sunny day, crisp air and ideal for a hike.

A nice sunny day made us think of our honoree, Megan Santa Croce.  She is a bundle of sunshine with an infectious smile.

Walk With Megan

Peggy and Lacey on Greenbelt, MD Volksmarch

Skate boarding grounds...no takers though
Walk with Megan

Peggy and I went on this walk (Walk with Megan) today around 2:00 pm,  Mar. 4, 2018.  The weather was mild at about 48 degrees F.  Ironically, in Binghamton, NY,  they were playing in a foot of snow or shoveling out from a drift at least as high.

We walked around a beautiful lake in Greenbelt, MD, about 8 miles from our apartment.  The walk (5K) was sponsored by the Greenbelt Walkers club, a Volksmarch group.  We also had a sidekick with us, a yellow lab named Lacey.  Rebecca's family was away on a weekend getaway, so we were designated as dogsitters.  We are allowed to have pets in our apt., so things worked out fine.  She was a good "grand"-dog to care for.

On the path we met many others taking advantage of the sunny day to get out and enjoy nature.  Something about the crisp air, sunshine and natural beauty that uplifts us from the normal cares of this world.   To all fans of skate boarding, we ran across a special place for skate boarding, but there was no one using it.  At my age I think I will pass on the sport, but I know several of my grandkids like to do it.
